La iluminación como medio expresivo en el cine | Lighting as an expressive tool in the cinema production

La iluminación en cine y en fotografía es un factor expresivo y funcional que ayuda a aumentar la expresión artística de la imagen y la interpretación de los actores.

La fotografía es uno de los aspectos más importantes que se debe desarrollar en una producción cinematográfica. Ayuda a generar continuidad entre los distintos planos y a crear el ambiente exacto que diferenciará nuestra película del resto

A principios de mayo de 2018 tras una conversación con el productor Félix Cárdenas de Fila 10.7 se me plantea el hacerme cargo de la dirección de fotografía de un nuevo cortometraje protagonizado por Assumpta Serna y Aida Oset y dirigido por Marc Nadal.

Tras comprobar que la película perseguía, con fines sociales, mostrar la cruda realidad de la enfermedad del Alzheimer, acepté encantado. En esta ocasión el reto sería conseguir, mediante el trabajo de iluminación y encuadre, ambientes adecuados para la trama. Ambientes en los que los personajes puedieran expresar magistralmente sus sentimientos reforzados por la incidencia de la luz o la oscuridad, el color o la ausencia del mismo.

Aquí muestro una breve muestra del trabajo de fotografía para el corto “Donde no puedes llegar” que incluye retratos y planos generales del making Off.

Lighting in film and photography is an expressive and functional factor that helps to increase the artistic expression of the image and the acting work of the cast.

Photography is one of the most important details that should be developed in a film production. It helps to generate continuity between the different shoots and to create the exact environment that will differentiate our film from others.

At the beginning of May 2018 after a conversation with the producer Felix Cárdenas from Fila 10.7, I was asked to take in charge the direction of photography of a new short film starring by Assumpta Serna and Aida Oset and directed by Marc Nadal.

After verifying that the film was pursuing, for social purposes, to show the harsh reality of Alzheimer's disease, accept without hesitation. This time the challenge would be to achieve, through the work of lighting and framing, provide environments for the plot. Environments in which the characters can masterfully express their feelings reinforced by the incidence of light or darkness, color or absence of it.

Here I show a brief sample of the photography work for the short film “Donde no puedes llegar” that includes portraits of making Off.
