Definitely linked to Italian cinema | Definitivamente vinculado al cine italiano

Desde siempre me he sentido atraído por el movimiento neorrealista del cine italiano. Mi inquietud por temáticas sociales coincide de pleno con esta tendencia y forma de realización tan centrada en la vida cotidiana de la clase trabajadora. 

Es una excelente forma de efectuar crítica social. Los problemas colectivos son los que nos afectan a todos, y mostrarlos mediante una aparente ficción tiene la capacidad de generar debate, reflexión y propiciar posibles cambios en la dirección de la historia.

En mis películas me gusta usar actores noveles, e incluso personas que, aun no siendo profesionales del séptimo arte, tienen una capacidad innata para la interpretación. Esto me permite jugar con las emociones, innovar y descubrir talento escondido en la gran masa gris. Ofrecer oportunidades a personas que nunca se hubieran imaginado capaces de lucir en la gran pantalla me llena de satisfacción.

Pero esto no es nuevo, directores italianos como Vittorio De Sica con su film “Ladrón de bicicletas”, Roberto Rossellini, Luchino Visconti, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Luigi Zampa y tantos otros han sido los padres de este movimiento del que me siento descendiente.

Quizás haya sido esta la conexión que ha propiciado que mi primer cortometraje “Mi amigo Naim” haya tenido tanta aceptación en tierras italianas y éste ‘ultimo “La Camiseta” (The T-Shirt) esté suscitando interés en la industria del cine italiano hasta el punto de haber sido escogido, para su promoción en festivales, por Premiere Film una distribuidora italiana de gran prestigio internacional con sedes en Italia, Francia y Nueva York. La misma que ha acompañado hasta conseguir el Oscar de Hollywood 2018 a Chris Overton, la Palma de Oro de Cannes 2017 a Qiu Yang, el Oscar de Hollywood 2017 a los húngaros Kristof Deák y Anna Udvardy, el Globo de Oro 2017 a Aldo Iuliano y tantos y tantos otros cineastas.

Ahora más que nunca me siento vinculado a Italia, su creatividad y el carácter de su gente, y he de admitir que para mi es un honor y un gran placer.

I have been always attracted from the neo-realist movement of Italian cinema. My concern about social issues coincides fully with this trend and way of film making so focused on the daily life of the working class.

It is an excellent way to carry out social criticism. The collective problems are those that affect us all, and showing them through an apparent fiction has the ability to generate debate, reflection and promote possible changes in the direction of history.

In my films I like to use initiation actors, and even people who, although not being professionals of the seventh art, have an innate capacity for interpretation. This allows me to play with emotions, innovate and discover talent hidden in the great mass. Offering opportunities to people who had never imagined being able to show himselves on the big screen, fills me with satisfaction.

But this is not new, Italian directors like Vittorio De Sica with his film "Bicycle Thief", Roberto Rossellini, Luchino Visconti, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Luigi Zampa and many others have been the parents of this movement of which I feel descended.

Maybe this was the connection that has caused my first short film "Mi amigo Naim" to have had so much acceptance in Italian lands and this last "LA CAMISETA” (The T-Shirt) is attracting interest in the Italian film industry until the point of having been chosen, for its promotion in festivals, by Premiere Film an Italian distributor of great international prestige with offices in Italy, FRance ans New York. The same comany that has accompanied until obtaining the Oscar of Hollywood 2018 to Chris Overton, the Golden Palm of Cannes 2017 to Qiu Yang, the Oscar of Hollywood 2017 to the Hungarians Kristof Deák and Anna Udvardy, the Golden Globe 2017 to Aldo Iuliano and so many other filmmakers.

Now more than ever I feel connected to Italy and its people and I must admit that for me it is an honor and a great pleasure.
